Student blog: My visit to Derry by Cedrik Wolff, Germany
Student: Cedrik Wolff from Potsdam, Germany
Location: Derry
Course: English + Educational visits (Kindergarten & Social care sector)
I am 22 years old, from Germany and I am studying to become a Kindergarten teacher. I came to Foyle to take part in a project which involved visits to work places and organizations in my field of study.
At first I was very sceptical and shy, but the staff of the Foyle International School came to meet us warmly and did everything possible for us. Even the English lessons at Foyle were fun (and usually they aren’t). The teachers used very different and very well-considered methods that I didn’t know.
The Foyle International School was like a small family
My host family
My host father welcomed me. I’m glad I met him. He supported me in everyday life, made me food, drove me from A to B and offered to show me places of Ireland by himself and we had interesting conversations at the dinner table.
The City of Derry
A very old historical city. Every corner had something to offer, the people were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating.
I actually assumed that there were big differences between Germany and Ireland in terms of food, culture, interests, views, but I was wrong.
It was one of my best experiences so far and I can only recommend it to everyone to take it for themselves. I’d do it again anytime!
