Rich in culture and literacy heritage – Sligo is home to famous writer and poet William Butler Yeats, who is buried at Drumcliffe, near Benbulben. Many writers and artists have been inspired by Sligo.
“Ireland’s Surf Coast” – Sligo is home to some of Europe’s best surfing beaches. Strandhill, Mullaghmore and Easkey beaches get some of the best wind and therefore some of the best waves in the Wild Atlantic Way. Strandhill is like its own little surf village – always busy and bustling with surfers and tourists.
A student focused town – Sligo welcomes a large number of international and domestic students each year. Many of the local business cater to students and offer generous student discounts. For example, you can get a student ticket for as little as €6 when you show your student ID card!
