Each year, Foyle International have hundreds of international students who come to study on linguistic, vocational and cultural courses. A majority of our students come from Europe. Staying with locals is the best way for them to experience the best of Irish culture during their stay in Derry!

Homestay options are not limited to a traditional family and there are lots of options depending on the studentโ€™s requirements and preferences. For instance, we have younger and independent hosts, and we have hosts with partners and children.

Becoming a host is a great way to make easy money on your spare room.

What is homestay?

Becoming a homestay provider is when you have one or more of our foregin students living with you in your home. They should eat with you, share common living areas and have use of the household amenities (laundry, etc.) There are payments made you the host to cover the cost of students’ weekly expenses.

Our students opt for homestay to immerse themselves in the local culture and experience what it is like to live in a typical Northern Irish home.

  • Flexibility to decide when and how many students you will host
  • Long and short stays available
  • Assistance from active and experienced Foyle International staff
  • 24-hour emergency helpline
  • Payment every 2 weeks

I absolutely love being a host for Foyle International as I really love meeting new people. I find it very rewarding to help people to understand our culture and way of living. I also take a lot of interest in learning about new cultures.

Being a host has had such a positive impact on my baby as he is getting to meet new people all the time. Itโ€™s really helped him to become very outgoing at such a young age!
