Thinking of hosting?

Welcome a young person to Derry, share our culture and way of life, and discover a little of theirs along the way.

01

You choose when you host

We text you upcoming dates. If you fancy it, say yes. If not, no worries at all. There's no minimum and no pressure.

02

Local support, round the clock

We're not a faceless agency. We're a local team on Great James Street, probably just round the corner from you, and always a phone call away, with a 24/7 emergency number while a student is staying.

Heather is brilliant anytime I ever contact her and is always there to help. I don’t think hosting would be the same without her.

Questions?

Who can become a host?

There’s no one “type” of host! Our hosts include families, couples, single people, working professionals, retirees and empty nesters. You don’t need to have children or be at home all day. If you have a comfortable spare room and would enjoy welcoming an international student into your home, hosting could be for you.

I work full time. Can I still host?

Absolutely. Many of our hosts work full-time, part-time, shifts or from home. Students have their own programme during the day and don’t expect you to entertain them 24/7. What matters most is a welcoming home, and including them in normal family life when you’re together.

How long do students come for?

Most of our stays are short stays of 2 to 4 weeks. We also have a small number of longer stays each year, between 3 and 9 months.

I have pets. Can I still host?

Yes! Lots of our hosts have dogs, cats and other pets, and many students love staying in a home with animals. We take this into account when matching, and won’t knowingly place a student with a pet allergy, or someone uncomfortable around animals, in a home with pets.
