What is this course?

Derry-Londonderry is uniquely situated for language learners and English teachers to enter the cultural worlds of both Britain and Ireland. This border city is within Northern Ireland, a region of the UK, as well as on the Island of Ireland. Foyle International sees this as a strength rather than a problem, and welcomes you to immerse yourself in the Best of Both cultural traditions, as well as experiencing the vibrant diversity brought by increased European mobility and multiculturalism.

The Best of Both course uses theoretical concepts as a springboard into the richly nuanced cultures of Britain and Ireland. It is primarily an experiential course with plenty of opportunities for reflection and discussion.
The course is structured so that participants connect directly with the culture in a way that could not be achieved outside the British Isles. It provides an opportunity for participants to develop their own language skills, not only by completing the course through English, but by also studying contemporary English.

Who is the course for?

  • Non-native teachers of English who would like to update and develop both their language and teaching skills
  • Teachers who work with teenagers and young adults (12 – 17 years)
  • Teachers who have a strong intermediate level of English (B1+) or above
