Adult Summer School

Lesson topics range from history, politics and cultural diversity to music, literature and dance.

An Adult Summer School programme is an interesting and stimulating way to learn English while enjoying the culture and hospitality of Ireland. Throughout this innovative and unique programme you will explore many diverse characteristics of Irish life, both past and present. Lesson topics range from history, politics and cultural diversity to music, literature and dance.

Preparation for afternoon and evening activities takes place during the morning English classes, and you will explore the themes through the four key skill areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. There will be a special emphasis on pronunciation, communication skills and the development of oral fluency.

  • 2 hour workshops on Wednesdays

In the evenings you can enjoy a traditional Irish music night, perhaps try Irish set dancing at one of the local Ceili dances or participate in storytelling and drama nights. We also have “Derry Party Nights” with themed events and discos.

There are excursions at the weekends to places of rich cultural interest and beauty such as the famous Giants CausewayBushmills Whiskey Distillery (the oldest distillery in the world), Donegal and Glenveagh National Park, Belfast and the Ulster American Folk Park.

There are also optional package trips to Dublin, Newgrange and the Boyne Valley and to Galway, Clare and the Cliffs of Moher for those who would like to see a bit more of Ireland. Each day is different.. unlock the history of Ireland!

We offer a range of workshops each Wednesday afternoon, offering either extra language development such as Trinity exam skills, pronunciation, fluency development or cultural workshops such as Irish music, drama or creative writing.

Students can stay with local host families on a full board or half board basis, at the university campus or in a shared student house on a self-catering basis.
